Apr 7th Stop Global Warming College Tour Blog: More Events Leading Up to....

My previous installment was made some time ago. Since then a week has flown by. It was a week that I spent in Nashville, doing my best to document the recording process and placing the finishing touches to the SGWT.

At the end of the week, the recording team sat down to dinner amidst thunder lightning and a metallic radio voice announcing a tornado warning. We were able to listen to 7 very near completed songs. Nothing less than amazing.

The next day we flew to LA on an early Southwest flight. Tim came in from Atlanta and that afternoon the three of us met at Sheryl’s in order to rehearse the words and music for Big Yellow Taxi which Sheryl is considering playing on the tour. We were able to get the lyrics and music from the internet in less than five munutes. Years before that would have meant a trip to a record store, some attentive listening to the track, a pencil and an eraser. Surely our life is better because of the ability of doing things like this? It’s similar to the question: Are we all healthier now that we drink so much more ‘purified water’ than ever before? Not sure where the evidence of either can be found or assimilated- but in the last month the facts and figures proving that global warming is attributable to human causes were made clear. That we DO know. The speculation should be over and the SGWT tour is a vehicle to enable Laurie David and Sheryl explain how and why and what to do to help. If everyone works together, and we mean everyone in the grandest sense, then the inevitable effect of global warming will be the equivalent to a car running into a wall at 5mph rather then where we are headed now at 50mph.

Later Sheryl performed a few old favorite songs at a function sponsored by Elle. In some ways you could say it was a launch of the Stop Global Warming College Tour. Laurie said a few choice and effective words about the state of our world and how important it is to take action to stop the acceleration of this environmental condition. Surely we must all see that as a necessary step to, without being too dramatic, save the world. The media are no longer ignoring it and in fact Laurie (now seated in front of Sheryl and myself on the plane to Dallas as I write)  stated that with the way the momentum is gathering, the cause to Stop Global Warming may soon supercede that of the Civil Rights Movement which successfully abolished hard line racial discrimination.

It can be this big.

It needs to be.
